PROJECT IMPACT

  • Produces code that is clear/simple, modular, loosely coupled, of low complexity, cleanly documented, meets requirements and is testable.
  • Frequently contributes to and reviews code in important, core and complex components and frameworks.
  • Demonstrates strong ability and influences others to choose proper off the shelf software frameworks and libraries when needed. Identifies complexities that can be broken out into reusable components.
  • Understands the testing approach and uses quality metrics to identify gaps. Works with the department to recommend solutions that are in accordance with the accepted testing framework and testing pyramid. Champions department wide testing strategy.
  • Designs, documents, and builds simple and scalable solutions for complex problems with elegant and reusable architectures resulting in modular multi-system services, functions, or workflows that are resilient, maintainable, easy to monitor and pioneer best practices for engineers.
  • Demonstrates strong ability to and influences others to build, reuse existing or license new technology components. Demonstrates examples of departmental transformation through new patterns/principals in system design. Has a significant financial or efficiency impact across the department.
  • Ensures cross-team dependencies are noted and well understood by teams involved and other relevant stakeholders.
THE EXPERTISE
  • At least 4 years experience in backend software development, including designing and developing service-based components.
  • Expertise in RDBMS data modeling and query optimization (eg. Postgres, Snowflake,Mysql)
  • Experience designing systems, including a good understanding of the landscape of monolithic and microservice architectures, and the ability to evaluate and identify tradeoffs in architectural decisions
  • Experience proposing and developing interfaces between components, designing contracts, configuring synthetic monitors, and ensuring observability throughout the system is thoroughly instrumented for.
  • Working knowledge of highly scalable distributed and cloud native databases.
  • Bachelor’s of Computer Science, or equivalent combination of education and experience, professional certification preferred.
  • Must have experience in technical leadership and ownership of software components and code bases.
  • Must have excellent verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Strong experience in Python.
